Certified Hospitality Sales Professional (CHSP®)

 

Sales professionals make a great impact on the sales performance of all profit areas of a hospitality operation.  Thus, they are required to possess the ability to assess with dexterity environmental forces, identify and target the most relevant customer groups to the organization’s products and services, and employ the appropriate strategies in order to convince them to buy those products and services.  In addition, they must have great communication and revenue management skills and proficiency in the following areas: selecting the optimal mix of distribution networks for all offered products and services, implementing efficient communication between the sales and reservation areas and customers.  

 

The combination of existing sales work experience and fresh sales skills, honors and validates sales professionals for their exemplary and advanced knowledge and ability in the particular areas.

 

Upon completion of the training seminars you will be able to acquire advance knowledge on:

  • The Marketing Plan

  • Business and Leisure Travelers

  • Travel Agents and Meeting Planners

  • The Sales Office and Reservations

  • Revenue Management

  • Conducting Personal and Telephone Sales

 

This certificate is best suited for either experienced or new marketing, sales and revenue practitioners working in hotels, events and conventions, digital marketing tourism agencies.  Furthermore, this course applies also to professionals with experience from other industries in marketing, sales and revenue but they are considering to switch career towards the hospitality industry.

 

Prerequisites

Because individual backgrounds vary widely in the hospitality industry, applicants may pursue the CHSP designation if currently employed in these qualifying positions: 

  • Fifty percent or more of the duties and responsibilities involve sales of sleeping rooms and/or meeting space to groups or individuals. All areas of hospitality sales are included: room, convention/conference, banquet/catering, group, etc. 

    Candidate Time in Position: 6-months, OR 

  • One current AHLEI supervisor, management, department head, or executive certification eliminates time requirement

  • Degree from an accredited academic institution eliminates time requirement 

 

Exam

The CHSP® exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions that must be answered within a two hour time period. All test questions are designed to test the candidate's mastery of various competencies derived from six key areas of knowledge in combination with on-the-job hospitality work experience. The key areas of testing are:

  • The Marketing Plan

  • Business and Leisure Travelers

  • Travel Agents and Meeting Planners

  • The Sales Office and Reservations

  • Revenue Management

  • Personal and Telephone Sales

 

Candidates must submit an application and meet the necessary prerequisites. All exams require that examinations be administered under the supervision of a proctor.
