You’re building your career at a time of rapid change, accelerated innovation, intense globalization, and profound demographic shifts. Success depends on how quickly you can identify and evaluate trends, adapt to new cultures, and craft creative approaches to stakeholders, products, services and social contexts. These new challenges require new preparation. The Bentley MBA goes beyond the traditional classroom setting.
- • We’ve created a powerful studio model for a select group of highly motivated men and women.
- • The 11-month, full-time, cohort-based program puts special emphasis on honing your individual leadership style.
- • You will join a small number of committed students who bring unique experiences to the program from around the world.
- • The Bentley MBA will challenge you to put learning into practice through projects with companies and other host organizations across the globe.
- • Personal assessment, feedback from executives, and collaboration with Bentley faculty will strengthen your ability to lead and succeed.
- • We welcome focused, accomplished professionals who are eager to address issues related to the future of business, in a dynamic community of like-minded peers and instructors.
Academic Themes
Created through collaboration by faculty in business and the arts and sciences, the 11-month Bentley MBA engages you in four 10-week themes: Innovation, Value, Environments and Leadership. Each comprises four 3-credit modules where you will work in a cohort with faculty and guests. This unique studio approach to learning balances individual development with teamwork, and promotes creativity.
- • Leaders know the value of Innovation and creativity in devising new models for the role of business in society. Innovation supports the other three themes of the Bentley MBA. That is, to be innovative, leaders must understand the environments in which they operate, the ways that innovation may or may not lead to value, and the role of their decisions in building an organization where creativity can thrive.
- • While Value is at the heart of every business strategy and activity, its meaning is complex and subjective. Understanding the different interpretations and assessments of value is a prerequisite for any comprehensive business decision.
- • Firms and managers cannot operate in a silo. Leaders must consider the wider setting of the firm, community, country and world when making decisions. These different levels of context, starting from within the organization and extending to a global scale, are repeatedly emphasized in the Environments theme.
- • Discover your Leadership style and track your personal development through the program. Learn how to communicate credibly with different groups to earn their trust. The theme’s initial topics explore the nature of leadership, the extent to which it can be taught, the role of emotional intelligence in leadership success, and the range of challenges one faces in a leadership role. Faculty members and leadership experts will help you understand your preferred leadership styles, skills and capabilities, strengths and weaknesses. Regular reflection on your experiences in the program will benchmark your development as ethical and strategic leader.
Studio
The traditional lecture hall setting is effective for students who want to look at PowerPoint slides and record the professor’s every word. That’s not what the Bentley MBA aims for. Our program makes you a dynamic contributor to discussion: standing up to debate with a classmate, illustrating your points on a multimedia board, or joining a smaller group to share perspectives based on your collective experiences.
- • Bentley’s MBA studio combines the latest technology and daily interaction with faculty and fellow classmates, to enrich your learning experience.
- • “After-class” studio time allows for delving deeper into the relevant issues and ideas.
- • You will discuss details and applications with faculty, as both colleagues and mentors, and work with them in preparing for the two-week field-based collaboration that follows the Innovation, Value and Environments themes.
Field-based Collaborations
The Bentley MBA incorporates three field-based collaborations for the Innovation, Value and Environment themes. You will join faculty and members of organizations at host sites to explore complex business topics. These two-week experiences bring together topics associated with the specific theme – and build on previous themes – in a real-world setting. Two of the trips are to international destinations.
- • The field-based collaborations involve multiple stakeholder groups or organizations, and focus on issues relevant to all business sectors.
- • You will not be working to solve a problem. Rather, you will address an issue—generally one for which an actionable solution does not exist.
- • The goals are to emphasize the proper approach for evaluating these persistent issues and to illuminate your skills and limitations, both of which are core elements of being a competent leader.
- • The faculty member’s role in the collaboration is helping you apply key lessons and concepts gleaned from previous themes.
Student Profile
The Bentley MBA program brings together a small number of committed students who contribute their unique experiences from around the world. We are looking for highly motivated leaders who have five or more years of professional, managerial work experience and a desire to advance quickly to a position of greater responsibility and leadership.
- • Your peers in the program have already shown a talent for leadership and an ability to work with groups of colleagues, both here and abroad.
- • They are concerned about the role and responsibility of business in society. They are familiar with organizations that struggle to address emerging issues and trends.
- • They want to offer new strategies and perspectives to improve their firm, division or group.
- • The Bentley MBA program pushes you to think across disciplinary lines, consider diverse perspectives, and identify multiple approaches to any single challenge.
- • Your takeaway here is not an “answer,” but rather a path for finding the best solution.
- • You are not required to have a formal undergraduate education in business or expertise in a particular subject area. Those without business education experience must complete online modules that emphasize quantitative analytical skills: accounting, economics, finance and statistics.
Applying
The profile of the Bentley MBA class is diverse in geography, gender, race, educational background and other qualities. - • Candidates will have to demonstrate an ability to handle demanding academic work and a willingness to contribute to a dynamic community of scholars from around the world.
